Accessibility at Fledglings

We want as many people as possible to be able to use our website. We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA guidelines and to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010. If you need information in a different format, or you find a part of the site you can’t use, please tell us.

Feedback and contact

Email enquiries@fledglings.org.uk and include:

  • the page or feature you’re having trouble with (URL if possible)
  • what you were trying to do and what happened
  • your device, browser and any assistive tech (e.g., screen reader)

We’ll get back to you and offer an alternative route if needed (for example, help by email, accessible documents, or arranging a call-back).

What we’re doing to support accessibility

  • Using clear headings, lists and plain language
  • Providing text alternatives for meaningful images
  • Ensuring forms have labels, clear errors and instructions
  • Maintaining colour contrast and visible focus indicators
  • Supporting keyboard navigation and logical tab order
  • Using semantic HTML and ARIA only where needed
  • Designing content to reflow on mobile and when zoomed
  • Respecting user preferences such as reduced motion where possible

Ways you can customise the site

  • Text size: zoom your browser (e.g., Ctrl/⌘ + and −) — the layout should remain usable
  • Reader modes: many browsers offer a clutter-reduced reading view
  • Reduced motion / contrast: you can set these in your device’s accessibility settings

Compatibility and supported technologies

The site is built with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. It should work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) on desktop and mobile. Older browsers and very old mobile OS versions may not provide the best experience.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following and are working to improve them:

  • Older PDFs: some legacy downloads may not be fully tagged for screen readers. If you need a PDF in an accessible format, email us and we’ll provide an alternative (for example, HTML or tagged PDF).
  • Third-party apps and embeds: some features (for example, payment gateways, video hosts or add-on widgets) are provided by third parties and may not fully meet WCAG. We review these regularly and seek accessible alternatives where we can.
  • Video captions and transcripts: some older videos may not have full captions or transcripts. We will add or update these when possible.
  • Occasional link wording: some historic pages may include non-descriptive link text. We’re updating these for clarity.

Ongoing improvements

  • Regular accessibility checks on new and updated pages
  • Adding alt text to older images as we review pages
  • Improving the accessibility of downloadable documents
  • Training our team and suppliers on inclusive content

If you’re not happy with our response
