Description

The Pretorian Kinetic Motion-Sensing Controller turns physical movement into an accessible way to communicate, learn, play and control compatible equipment. Its built-in gyroscope detects orientation, tapping, tilting and directional movement, allowing activities to respond when the unit is moved rather than requiring a conventional button press.

Kinetic can be placed inside a suitable soft play cube, cushion or other protective enclosure to create interactive movement activities. Each side of a cube can represent a different message, sound, instruction or reward, making it possible to create a talking dice, matching game, sequencing activity or large soft switch.

Two versions are available. Kinetic for iPad connects directly to a compatible iPad using Bluetooth and can be used with the Smooth Talker AAC app, compatible switch-adapted apps and iOS Switch Control. Kinetic for SimplyWorks connects wirelessly to compatible Pretorian SimplyWorks receivers, allowing movement to activate messages, computer software, switch-adapted toys or mains appliances through the appropriate additional equipment.

The activity and output function can be programmed to suit the user and the task. A rechargeable battery, wireless operation and automatic power-off make Kinetic easy to move between classrooms, therapy spaces, sensory rooms and home activities.

Activity Ideas

Activity How It Works
Dice Kinetic is placed inside a suitable soft play cube. A different message or sound can be triggered according to which face is turned uppermost.
Find-Me The user is asked to find a particular image or side of the cube. Finding the correct position can activate a chosen reward.
Find-Me-Sequence The user finds all six images or positions in a programmed sequence, developing the Find-Me activity into a multi-step task.
Dice-as-a-Switch A switch output is produced each time the cube is turned to a different face.
Tap A switch output is produced when Kinetic is tapped or moved during an activity such as throwing and catching. Placing it inside a suitable cushion can create a large soft switch.
Tilt A switch output is produced when Kinetic is tilted beyond 30 degrees.
Float The Tilt function may be used as a floating switch in hydrotherapy when Kinetic is fully enclosed inside an appropriate waterproof container.

Which Version Should Be Chosen?

Kinetic is available in two versions. The correct choice depends on the device or equipment that the customer wants to control.

Kinetic is not waterproof and must never be placed directly into water. Hydrotherapy activities require a secure waterproof container that is suitable for the intended environment.

Electrical appliances and toys must only be controlled through the appropriate compatible Pretorian receiver or controller. Kinetic for SimplyWorks does not connect directly to a toy, computer or mains appliance. Please check the chosen version and the additional equipment required before ordering.
