About Orkid Ideas & TomTag

Orkid Ideas was founded by Clare after experiencing first-hand how valuable visual supports could be for her son Tom, who was diagnosed with autism, a language disorder and sensory difficulties at the age of four.

Visual prompts helped Tom understand everyday activities, communicate and become more independent. What began with simple colour-coded school kit lists developed into TomTag – a reusable visual support system named after Tom himself.

TomTag uses Widgit symbols to create clear, easy-to-follow visual prompts for a wide range of everyday needs. Different kits can help with routines, organisation, school, travel, personal care and other activities where having a visual sequence or reminder can be useful.

Today, Clare and Tom continue to develop Orkid Ideas products to support children, young people and adults who benefit from visual structure and communication aids at home, school and in the wider community.
